Lagos State will host the first ever Nigeria Beer Festival from September 25 to October 1 as part of plans to boost the tourism as well as alcohol/beverage industry in Nigeria.

Plans for the festival have been underway since the beginning of the year and the state government will be partnering with brewers in the country to create an exciting festival that will run into Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations on October 1st.

According to the organisers of the event, One and One (001) Event Limited, the state government will be championing major institutional support for the beer festival in terms of security, transportation and logistics.

The event which promises to sensitize participants on responsible drinking as well as the dangers of under-age drinking will hold at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos Island.

The event will unveil Nigeria the opportunity to join the league of nations who organise annual beer festivals of which Germany’s Oktoberfest, which attracts more than 50,000 tourists to Munich yearly, is likely the most popular.

“Nigeria Beer Festival will be a carnival week of entertainment, sales and marketing and a gathering of the largest community of beer consumers from across the country and beyond with economic value for the brands and the economy at large,” said Akinola Oluwaleimu, General Manager of 001.

The beer festival will solidify the view of social scientists that beer as an alcoholic beverage is a symbolic vehicle for identifying, describing, constructing and manipulating cultural values and interpersonal relationships.

The festival will offer the best in terms of infrastructure with expert architects on hand to design and build modular stands to fit into any shape or style desired by exhibitors.

Oluwaleimu added that Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is expected to close the festival during the Independence Day Mega Concert that will parade an array of A-list Nigerian artistes, which will feature eye-popping fireworks display.
