Geographically, the Matsui Shuzou Distillery resides in the foothills of Mount Daisen, a volcanic peak standing over a mile above the surrounding fertile plains packed with lush vegetation, rugged coastlines, rivers, and lakes, characterized by its delicious, fresh groundwater. The volcanic-stone-filtered spring water is used to distill their Sake, Shōchū, and Whisky and bring it to proof – resulting in significant purity and unique, soft mineral composition.

The Matsui – The Peated Single Malt Whisky from Japan is pot distilled and then matured in white oak bourbon casks in the Tottori prefecture in a natural environment very favorable to good aging. It is then diluted down with high-quality natural spring water from Mount Daisen before bottling at 48% ABV.

Nose/Aroma/Smell: The aroma is loaded with notes of fresh and toasty malted cereal aromas, granola clusters, savory peat, and light smoke.

Flavor/Taste/Palate: The palate has everything that you’re looking for in a peated dram with notes of creamy toffee pudding, brown sugar, and orchard fruits wrapped in fragrant ash, sea salt, and ashy smoke.

Finish: The finish is long and smoky with fresh apple linger.
